Create Your Own Chalk Paint - Altered Box

Hello everyone,

Fairuz Fabiha here and welcome to the EC blog. Today I’ll be showing you how to have chalk paint effects without using an actual chalk paint by using EC products.

Today’s project is inspired by ‘Diwali theme’ that mainly came from the expressions craft August challenge mood board. 

For today I wanted to alter a small fruits-nuts box as a Diwali home decor.

So for the base, I’ve used a small wooden box.

At first I have used EC heavy white gesso to prime the base. Then I’ve used amber gold chroma burst along with white gesso to create an alternative of yellow chalk paints. Then I used the beautiful bloom stencil along with the diy blue paint (used teacup teal and gesso to make it) for the floral pattern. Finally added some pink details with the paint mix of white gesso and silk magic magenta chroma burst. For highlighting details, I’ve used soft glitter gold metallic paints.

These diy chalk paints are easy to make with the bright chroma bursts and gives a similar matte effect of regular chalk paints. These are perfect to use for home decor projects.

Little Sunshine- Mixed Media Panel

Fairuz Fabiha here and welcome to the EC blog. Today I’ll be showing you how to use EC products to create a beautiful monochromatic project.

Today’s project is inspired by ‘Monochrome  theme’ that mainly came from the expressions craft September challenge mood board. 

For today I wanted to create a contrast of light and bright by using different shades of the same color. I chose the color yellow as it’s such a happy color. Yellow is a color associated with sun. It symbolizes optimism, energy, joy, happiness and friendship.

So for the base, I’ve used a plastic wood panel. The composition is done using expressions craft chipboards, flowers and used an image for the focal point.

At first I have used EC heavy white gesso to prime the base. Then for the textures I’ve used sunny yellow embossing powder and micro deco stones. And for coloring I’ve only used Amber gold chroma burst. For highlighting the elements, I’ve used soft glitter gold shimmer paint and gold metallic stencil paste.

SHABBY CHIC ALTERED LANTERN

Fairuz Fabiha here and welcome to the EC blog. Today I’ll be showing you how to alter a lantern with mixed media.

Today’s project is inspired by ‘Shabby Chic- Pinks and Grays’ theme that mainly came from the expressions craft July challenge mood board. 

I’ve decided to use pinks and grays as the color scheme and decorated the lantern with Expressions craft flowers. As this months product highlights are metallic paints, gesso and chalk paints, I decided to go with the metallic paint and gesso in many different ways to create this perfect shabby chic project.
